Look at those near-to-budding zinnias! My cut flower garden dreams are vicariously coming true in my mom’s back deck garden. In a few weeks, she’ll be able to clip colorful zinnias for her mason jar vases and watch the blooms regenerate. I, meanwhile, will happily receive pictures and pick up farmers market bouquets until my gardening time comes. Someday.
I’ve been doing a lot of that lately, the someday, *sigh*. Maybe it’s the summertime urge to sit under a shady tree and daydream, or maybe it’s standing on the precipice of some pretty big life changes. Either way, I’m daydream-y, full of half-conceived plans and projects, eager to start on something but not quite sure what that something, or somethings, may be.
Maybe I should start baking again? It’s always tricky to get up the motivation to turn the oven on in the thick of July, but this sourdough peach and strawberry galette might convince me.
Without my usual weekly sourdough loaf, I’ve turned to a different vehicle for lunchtime sandwiches: King’s Hawaiian Sweet Pretzel Slider Buns.
Remember this perfectly dressy or casual rib knit tee from Target? I found the quintessential tank top with a similar cut and fabric from 32 Degrees. I also ordered a couple more of these bike shorts because my summer mom uniform is still going strong.
My reading project schedule got derailed by a busy summer, but I’m still reading Reader, Come Home by Maryanne Wolf and finding myself impressed/proud of my Secondary Education degree—much of what Wolf discusses came up in my undergrad pedagogy courses, and I’m happy to draw on that experience as I read more of her work.
My most anticipated historical romance novel of 2023 is a Read Now selection on NetGalley! “Brain meets Beauty in this sparkling, fresh take on the classic Bringing Up Baby – if Jane Austen had written it!”
That’s all for this week, readers. What are you baking, reading, or shopping for lately?

I also stalled on Reader Come Home, but I am looking forward to finishing the last few chapters now that I’m done with the odyssey. I’m enjoying it very much.
That galette looks amazing! I need to revive my sourdough starter so that I have discard available to make the dough 😂
