Last week, my family slowly recovered from the stomach bug from hell, got a huge pile of books from Miss Victoria, and caught up on a mountain of laundry. I also contemplated what even is fashion and began assembling some spring/summer basics.
If you, too, are confused about what to wear post-pandemic, post-baby, or post-a-certain-age, check these links: Doree Shafrir debuted a new fashion advice column and Joy the Baker posted her spring uniform. I enjoyed these pieces and forecast lots more fashion commentary bubbling up as we enter “going out” season.
For now, I’m aiming for a “cool, comfy, classic” mom look with sporty basics I can dress up or down. I’ve collected a few staples so far, and I’ll keep you updated as my new personal style emerges. (I used to be so stylish. I miss her!)
From Target: an oversized white linen shirt, a cropped black tank, and tan joggers.
From Old Navy: I already have an abundance of bike shorts from last summer, and I plan on wearing the heck outta them again.
From Costco (but not available there anymore, sorry friends!): Tretorn sneakers.
I’m subsisting on applesauce, sweet potatoes, eggs, cereal, sourdough toast and yogurt for the foreseeable future. Do you have any gut-healing recipes that are NOT soup? Drop them in the comments, please and thank you.
Trader Joe’s ranunculus bouquet, I love you.
Theo found a recorder in his instrument kit the other night, and—this might sound ridiculous to seasoned parents—we let him play with it. It is hilarious. He plays one note and gets a big grin on his face, so proud of his musical skills. Or he acts bashful, like he can’t possibly take credit for creating such a beautiful sound. (Rest assured, once he can play more than one note or for a sustained amount of time, that thing will be hidden or trashed.)
We’ve been reading classic children’s literature for Novel Pairings over the last few months, and another favorite is coming up soon! Inkheart by Cornelia Funke is one of the first books I remember reading under the covers with a flashlight. I’m a bit nervous to revisit this story with adult eyes, but so far talking about all of these nostalgic reads with Sara and our community of nerdy readers has refreshed my reading life.
Just for fun, what three words would you use to describe your current (or aspirational) style?

I feel like during the summers I spend most days in my Old Navy biker shorts too!!
I definitely go for things that are swappable, classic and warm. I love it when past me has made decisions that allow early morning me to leave the house looking semi put together with little effort.
Considering inspiration and we’ll go buy myself some flowers today
