Sunday Collection: sparkly boots, winter moisturizer & baking plans
plus what I'm reading as a professional bookworm
One of my best friends from college held her wedding reception on Halloween night—which, yes, was on a Tuesday this year. Everyone I mentioned this to thought it was bananas. Why would anyone host an event in the middle of the week?
Because it was fun!
The dress code was “cocktail fancy, costumes encouraged” and everyone delivered. My friend and her partner wore gothic brocade wedding wear, their parents dressed up in couples costumes, and I stepped out in a pair of sparkly heeled boots that harkened back to our college clubbing days (just kidding, mom, I never went to a club). They provided themed drinks, delicious snacks, and ghost tours of the venue. Some guests left early to prepare for work the next day, but that just made more room on the dance floor for the dedicated millennials to tear it up.
In college, my friend was always good at ignoring the opinions of others in favor of embracing her own tastes, ideas, and adventures. It’s something we all admired her for—and still do. By planning an out of the box wedding, she created a memorable night for everyone in her orbit. I highly recommend making friends with someone who’s unabashedly herself.
