A Brand New Podcast & Hello, March!
Exciting news! Tomorrow, my friend Sara and I are releasing the first two episodes of our brand new podcast Novel Pairings. We’ve been working on this project for months, and it’s been such fun to move our friendship from #Bookstagram DM’s to podcast recordings. Here’s the scoop:
Novel Pairings is a podcast dedicated to making the classics readable, relevant, and fun. In each biweekly episode, we’ll discuss one classic book and share some recommendations for contemporary reads that feature similar themes.
Sara and I are both English teachers (and bookish nerds), so we appreciate the role of classic lit, but we promise not to get too academic about it (although sometimes we can’t help it). We’ll discuss the books we love AND the books we loathe, and help stock your TBR with old and new reads for every literary taste.
I can’t wait for you to listen!
Since we’ve been working hard to prep the first few episodes, I haven’t been reading much lately. But here’s what’s on my nightstand:
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson: I’m listening to this Serial-esque YA mystery novel on audio via Libro.fm and loving it! The audiobook has one main narrator, Pippa, who is researching an unsolved murder case for her senior capstone project. Between entries in her “project log,” we get interviews with other characters, snippets of news coverage, and other true-crime-podcast-like audio clips.
Love Hard by Nalini Singh: This New Zealand rugby player romance was a random pick on NetGalley. I struggled through the first few chapters because it started at a wedding, and 1. I wasn’t familiar with all of the characters introduced though it was evident that they were in previous books, and 2. I don’t care much for weddings (just put me right on the dance floor, please and thank you). But after all the wedding stuff, it’s getting better, and while I might not continue with the series, it’s a fun read.
How Long ‘Til Black Future Month: I read the first two stories last week and WOW. Why did I wait so long to pick this up?

I’ll be back with more musings and book reviews next week. I’m still deciding on a direction for this newsletter beyond simple reading updates—thanks for sticking around while I experiment!
Subscribe to Novel Pairings wherever you listen to podcasts, and look out for two episodes on Tuesday! In the meantime, check out Episode 48 of He Read She Read.
